You are currently engulfed in a "wiki".  A general definition is found below.  In reference to Faces Of Dover, the term "wiki" is defined as an open sharing community for the collection of history about Dover, NH.  Let's break the term "open sharing community" down in to its three parts:

  • Open
(almost) Every page on Faces Of Dover can be created, edited, deleted (for good reason!), and moved by anyone at anytime.  We ask that you create a user name and become a part of the wiki officially.  Benifits await those who participate!
  • Sharing
Putting your two cents into a topic is why we created this site.  The wiki is an area where you can describe a topic's details the way you remember it.  It's not a discussion, but more of a historic collaboration about every noun that is relative to Dover, NH.
  • Community

Normally, we define community as the people who are in Dover. BUT, in this instance we are speaking of the people online, building, browsing, and contributing to Faces Of Dover.  The community we seek knows what happened about the people, places, and things we are all intersted in.

Think of the wiki as an open history book about Dover, NH with continuous collection and collaboration efforts. That is the Faces Of Dover wiki.

wiki (as defined by Wikipedia)

wiki is a generic term which is used to describe a certain kind of collaborative website that can be edited by any user and/or visitor.

  • wiki (as an adjective), the Wiki Way, and the [[1]] un-wiki are also used to describe the community-oriented philosophy that goes with such a system (e.g. "that's not a very wiki way of doing things").
  • Wiki (with a capital 'W') and WikiWikiWeb are used to refer to the Portland Pattern Repository, which was the first ever wiki.
  • wiki software and wiki engine are terms referring to pieces of software that power wiki-based websites. There are many different types of wiki software; some very simple, others enhanced with specific advanced features. See also: Wikipedia's entry on "wiki software" or the Portland Pattern Repository's ["canonical" list of wiki engines].
